If you didn’t find anything in the sales on Black Friday or Boxing Day, here’s your last chance to snag a bargain. Almost every major retailer will have slashed prices even further to budge the leftover Christmas stock from the shelves. With so many products on clearance across every department, you’ll definitely find something you’ve had your eye on before. If you couldn’t afford an item you wanted earlier, it’s likely it will now be on offer. To save you some time in online searches, here are some of the best deals available in the January sales.
Technology
Technology is one of the more expensive but necessary investments in our lives. Whether you want a new TV or games for the PlayStation you got for Christmas, now’s the time to shop. With Tesco Direct, you can save up to £40 on selected Sony Smart TVs. You could also save up to £80 on a range of Acer laptops. Argos has chipped away the cost of items like TVs, printers, tablets, and phones in its tech sale. When it comes to games, PlayStation is running a massive sale until 19th January. Pick up games like Call of Duty: WWII, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Star Wars: Battlefront II for up to 50% off. You can also check out the sales at GAME for huge savings on games and accessories for all consoles.
At Currys PC World, hundreds of items are on sale for as low as half price with savings of hundreds of pounds. You could get a 43″ Smart 4K Ultra HD television for as little as £349. If you need a new laptop for work or school, get your hands on a discount HP laptop for £399. At an even lower price, you could bag a sleek LENOVO IdeaPad for just £299. Currys PC World claims “you won’t get it cheaper from any other major retailer,” so snap up those deals. Why not get on the Alexa bandwagon and automate your home with smart systems? Amazon is running a sale on everything from security to lighting to home hubs, so it’s cheaper to make your life easier.
Travel
Another often expensive investment is going on holiday. In the middle of this awful winter weather, you might be planning out your trip to a tropical beach this summer. TUI will give you £100 off bookings for summer with the code SALE100, or £150 off long-haul summer holidays with SALE150. You only have to spend a minimum of £1000 to use the codes. There are even thousands of free places for kids available and low upfront deposits. If you wait to book last minute for an upcoming holiday, you could save even more.
Until 11th January, you can get 20% off a package holiday or Europcar rentals, and up to 50% off hotels through booking.com with EasyJet. Four-star beach holidays are available for as little as £300 per person for seven nights. Virgin Holidays only has 10% off its package holidays, but every saving counts. Thomas Cook is offering up to £300 off when you book a holiday for summer 2018, using the code BOOKIT. You can get £100 off when you spend £800, £200 off a £2000 booking, or £300 off for £4000. When you book holidays including flights and hotels or cars with British Airways, you can save up to £100 until 9th January.
Home
“New year, new me” is a common saying in January. Why not take the opportunity to reinvent your home as well? You don’t have to completely redecorate, but you can take the chance to invest in new furniture and convenient appliances. You can make cleaning easy with the Dyson V6 vacuum cleaner for £189.99 from Currys PC World, saving £130. The Argos home sale is the answer if you’re after cheap items and speedy availability. Many homewares and kitchen accessories are discounted by up to half price or less in the Home Sale. AO is discounting many appliances by up to 50%, including fridge freezers, tumble dryers and dishwashers. You can also save up to £300 on built-in ovens and hobs.
At John Lewis, there are hundreds of special buys and price cuts across the clearance sale. Take advantage of savings of up to 50% to refresh your home with high-quality new furnishings and accessories. Renowned for affordable furniture, IKEA has a sale in stores only until 7th January. You can check the kinds of offers available at your nearest store on the IKEA website. If you sign up to IKEA Family online, which is free, you can get an extra 10% off sale prices. IKEA Family also gives you access to offers at the in-store restaurant, such as a 6 item breakfast for just £1.50 from Monday to Friday.
Family
If you’re part of a family with young children, your bank account is no doubt drained after Christmas. Maybe the kids still want more toys, or you just want to get a head start on birthdays or even next Christmas. The January sales are the best time to save yourself some money and keep the kids happy at the same time. The Really Big Sale at Toys R Us includes plenty of discounts and many toys on half price. The big winner is the Disney sale in stores and online, where you can get your hands on your kids’ favourite Disney character accessories for up to 50% off. If they were too expensive in the run-up to Christmas, grab some branded goodies for the little fans now instead.
It’s overlooked a lot of the time, but even without sales, The Works is a great place for affordable toys, books, and craft materials for your kids. In the January sale, you can get cheap board games, children’s books, and soft toys for even less. You can also get discounted electronics for yourself, such as speakers and kitchenware. If you’re expecting a baby soon, shop the Mothercare sales now for up to 50% off selected lines until 17th January. You can take care of most of the basics like pushchairs, nursery furniture, car seats, and feeding equipment in advance for much lower prices.

Fashion
Assuming you didn’t blow your budget on outfits for all those Christmas parties, it’s time to expand your wardrobe for 2018. While stocks last, online retailer ASOS is offering impressive discounts of up to 70% off across all clothing ranges. You can also find extensive discounts on accessories and footwear. Get some new boots and a comfy scarf to get you through the rest of the winter.
Another online fashion retailer partaking in the January sales is Pretty Little Thing. In addition to the sitewide 60% off sale, there are 50 dresses on sale for just £5. It’s a bargain whether you need a basic evening dress or something to look stunning for a proper night out. Online rival Missguided has increased their discounts back to up to 70% for their mid-season sale. Most items are at least half price, but the £5 and under section isn’t quite as described.
River Island has up to 70% off online and instore as well. You can buy tops from £7, dresses from £10, and shoes from £15 there. H&M is joining in with 70% off selected items. Buy online and use the code 6076 for free standard delivery or collection until 8th January. Not to be outdone, Topshop has price cuts of up to 70% in their January sales too. There’s plenty of colourful fashion available in the sale to brighten up your winter blues.
According to Next, who should know, “colour pop” is the next big thing for fashion in 2018. Their up to half price clearance sale is for last season’s items, so you might find mainly muted colours. It’s a great opportunity to bag designer brand clothes for lower prices, though. While you’re giving yourself a style makeover, you can also save 10% on home furniture and revamp your living space.
Speaking of designer brands, Selfridges has sizeable reductions across branded clothes, shoes, and bags, as well as beauty and homewares. You can shop online for lazy luxury or head to your nearest Selfridges store. For high street luxury, House of Fraser is offering a range of discounts. Get up to 60% off dresses, menswear, kidswear, and homewares, up to 50% off shoes, jewellery, bags, and furniture, and up to 30% off electricals.
Health & Beauty
If you didn’t receive an abundance of bath and beauty gift sets for Christmas, or your skin reacted badly to any food and alcohol binges over the holidays, there’s no need to worry. The January sales are here to help you stock up on makeup and skincare. Get ahold of some of those infamous gift sets while they’re on clearance at Boots. Save 1/3 or 1/2 of the price of branded toiletries in the main sale. You can also buy one makeup item and get the second half price, and get half price off electric toothbrushes.
Superdrug is running a January sale on makeup, perfume, and beauty tools. There are plenty of other offers, like 3 for 2 on makeup brands. You can even save 1/3 on Protein World, SlimFast, or NiQuitin while you’re at it, to help smash your New Year’s resolutions. When it comes to cruelty-free pampering products, The Body Shop is queen. Save up to 50% on fragrances, body butter, hand creams, and more in the January sale. Treat yourself to some non-sale items too, and get 30% off with the code 14673.
If you can’t have a bath or shower without a Lush product, you probably already know that there’s no online sale this year. However, you can still get 50% off Christmas products made before 1st October instore. As the sale has been ongoing since Boxing Day, you might want to call your local shop before you go out. It’s likely there won’t be much if any Christmas stock left, but it’s worth a try.
Fitness
The most common New Year’s resolution is to get fit and lose weight. To aid you in these goals, retailers are encouraging you with discounts on the equipment you need to get healthier. Set yourself goals and monitor your progress with an activity tracker wristband from John Lewis. There are options for kids if you want to get the whole family moving. With the most features, the best fitness accessory the Fitbit Charge 2 is on sale for just £89.99. Amazon has deals on a range of fitness accessories such as bike pumps, ab trainer belts, gym bags, and waterproof phone cases.
Switching to a healthier diet is an important part of the fitness journey. Amazon also offers discounts on health foods and alternative cooking equipment like healthy grills and fryers. If you want to go in heavy on nutrition with protein and vitamin supplements, Amazon can help you with that too. You might not want to splash out on a gym membership, or not have the confidence to work out there. Instead, you can set up your own private gym with home sports apparatus from the Argos sale. From yoga mats to weights, treadmills to cross trainers, there’s something affordable that will suit your workout needs.
Miscellaneous
It isn’t just shopping brands who are offering discounts in the new year. With JD Wetherspoon you can pick up a drink in the pub for a reduced price until 17th January. The discount applies to several spirits, wines, and draught beers. It also includes Monster and Sanpellegrino, plus you can get refillable coffee for just 89p. While no other chain pubs introduced notable sales specifically for January, you should still check out your local restaurants. They could have special offers they haven’t publicized online. The good news is, chains like Hungry Horse have ongoing discounts every week. You can get off your feet and refuel if you’re going to be shopping the sales out there in the high street stores instead of online (you brave soul).
As a side note: if you intend to spend a lot on your January sales haul, make sure you know each retailer’s returns policy for sale items. Some places won’t let you return a sale item, so don’t buy anything you’re likely to end up returning. Usually, your consumer rights entitle you to a refund for faulty goods whether they were full price or not. In any case, it’s best for you to check when you buy to avoid problems later.
