VAT Helpline

To contact the VAT Helpline, call the number aboveThis line can be used for general enquiries, to understand VAT a little more, or to ask questions relating to your business and your VAT. When calling this number, it helps to have your VAT registration number and postcode for your business. If you are not yet registered, you will not need this information. If the lines are busy on this line, try calling again between the hours of 8 am and 11 am throughout the week.  This line is automated, meaning you can choose the department you wish to speak with.

VAT Returns Helpline

VAT Returns are usually made every three months. A VAT Return is a record of the amount of VAT you owe, how much you have made in your accounting period, and the amount of VAT you can reclaim from HMRC. If you would like to cancel your VAT registration, you will need to submit a final VAT Return. For more help with your return, call the VAT Returns Helpline.

VAT Enquiries

If you have an enquiry about VAT, call the Enquiries team.There is a range of different ways to pay your VAT to the HMRC, including logging into your account, over webchat on the HMRC website, or via the line above.

VAT Bill Payments

If you would like to pay your bill over the phone, unfortunately, you cannot. However, you can pay online by logging into your account. If you are having trouble logging into your account, call the dedicated accounts team on the number in the table at the top of this page. You will need to pay your bill before the deadline shown on your return. For enquiries relating to bill payments, call the dedicated line.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with the service provided by the VAT team or the HMRC, call the complaints team. This line can become busy at times due to a high volume of callers. However, this is a direct line and someone will help you resolve your complaints as soon as possible.

VAT Account Setup & Helpline

With the HMRC, you can log into your online account in order to pay your VAT Return. To use the online service, you will need your VAT number and an online account with the HMRC. These are given to you when you register for VAT. On your account, you can set up a direct debit, report any changes to your business.
