If you venture into the world of online car insurance and comparison websites, you may be familiar with a company by the name of General Accident. If you take out a policy with them, here is how to get in touch.

About General Accident

General Accident is a trading name for Aviva, the largest insurance provider in the UK. Customers can buy car insurance policies online, over the phone, or through comparison websites. They can then manage the policy through their online account. Aviva is a re-branding of CGU, formed in 2000 after a merger between Commercial Union and General Accident. The company re-introduced the General Accident brand in 2013, although you can trace the name back to its origins in Scotland in 1885. General Accident is primarily an online business. This is to reduce their operating costs, which allows them to offer lower premium rates.

Customer Services

To contact General Accident customer services, you have to get a quote online first. Call and provide your quote number to get through to a person. You can also call to discuss your policy within 28 days of its start date by providing your policy number. If you contact customer services to request any changes to your policy, there will be an administration fee of £30 plus Insurance Premium Tax. Depending on the change, your premium might also increase. If you are new to General Accident or only considering a policy, you can call to discuss the options. Find out about all the types of cover or your No Claim Discount.

Payments

You can pay your annual premium for the year at once, or pay monthly with a credit agreement. Once you choose a payment method, unfortunately, you cannot change it until renewal. You can pay with a credit or debit card. Your policy will automatically renew if you choose to set up a Direct Debit. Pay an outstanding balance or update your payment details in your online account. Call if you have problems with payments for your insurance policy. If you cancel and they still charge you for the next payment, call and make sure they will include this in your refund amount. Call if you are ever overcharged for payments.

GA Telematics

You could get a discount on your premium with GA Telematics. Your insurance policy depends on the data from a Telematics device installed in your car. It monitors every rxprednisone.com journey your car takes and awards driving points. The recorded scores will calculate your premium when your policy is due for renewal. This policy is only available for 17-24-year-olds with 1 year or less No Claims Discount. If you have a poor driving score then General Accident can cancel your policy with 7 days notice. Call to discuss the device data, points calculation, or policy changes. Find out which cancellation fees apply if you cancel your policy.

Make A Claim

You can make a claim online, or if you are on the roadside or need to speak to a person then call up. Please make sure to have the following information: your policy number, the registration numbers of all cars involved, the names and addresses of every person involved (including passengers), the details of what has happened and any damage to your car, plus a reference number from the police if they attended the scene. You can call whether your car was stolen or damaged and you need to get a courtesy car or new replacement car. E-mail claimproblem@generalaccident.com if you are not satisfied with the claim results.

Cancellation or Renewal

Whether your policy is about to expire or you are ending it yourself, call for assistance. If you want to renew, you should receive a reminder from General Accident 28 days before your policy will end. Sometimes policies might auto-renew, so you should check your policy if you want to leave when it expires. You can cancel your policy online with no administration fee. However, there are cancellation fees of £25 or £50 plus a pro-rata cover charge, depending on how long you have had the policy. You can call to cancel the policy if the holder has died without paying fees. Prices may vary but there are no renewal fees.

Complaints

Sometimes you may experience issues as a customer of General Accident. If you are ever unhappy with your policy or customer service, call to complain. General Accident promises to treat all complaints fairly and investigate them thoroughly. For this reason, they may have to look into the issue then get back to you, which could take 10 working days. If you do not agree with their response after this, you can ask them to review it. Following the final outcome, you can either accept their decision or escalate complaints to the Financial Ombudsman after 8 weeks. They can command action from General Accident.

Other Ways to Contact General Accident

General Accident prefers online contact from customers. They expect you to browse the FAQs on their website to find the answers you need. Or if the information you need isn’t there, you can send an e-mail to team@generalaccident.com. You may have to wait more than 48 hours for a response. Obviously, this isn’t ideal if you have an urgent problem. Try leaving a comment on a post or sending a message on their Facebook page. General Accident does have a Twitter account too, but you are unlikely to get a response there since they never use it. It is slower, but you do have the option of writing a letter to the head office.
